NEHALEM RIVER STEWARD

The Nehalem River is the largest of Oregon’s North Coast rivers, running over 100 miles from it’s mountain sources to Nehalem Bay.

The North Fork Nehalem River joins the mainstem in the tidal reaches of the flood plain. The mainstem Nehalem, often refered to as the South Fork, is an important refuge for wild steelhead, coho and chinook salmon and cutthroat trout.

The North Fork is home to a state-run hatchery which produces winter steelhead, coho salmon and rainbow trout, but still receives small wild runs of steelhead, coho, chinook and cutthroat.
