Danielle Higbee

Administrative and Event Assistant

Danielle Higbee joined NFS in 2025 as the Administrative and Event Assistant. Originally from Pennsylvania, Danielle grew up enjoying outdoor activities like camping in the forest with her parents and younger sister. She remembers learning about endangered species and conservation efforts on these trips, which sparked her later academic pursuits. Her first experience snorkeling was truly eye-opening to her interest in fish and aquatic life. She went on to earn a PADI Open Water diver certification while in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

In 2018, Danielle graduated from Allegheny College with a B.A. in Environmental Studies. She double-minored in Dance and Movement studies and Philosophy. Danielle moved to Portland, Oregon, in September of 2021 to pursue a Master’s in Public Health. She focused on Environmental Systems and Human Health and continued her studies, earning a graduate certificate in Biostatistics. During her studies, she collaborated with the Lower Columbia Estuary Project, conducting data analysis regarding water quality data and its impacts on salmon spawning. In addition to her position at NFS, you can find her behind the bar at Freeland Spirits in Portland, OR. Community service continues to be a driving force in her life. She gives her time to organizations like the Cupcake Girls, the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, and James Recycling.
