Join us on Saturday, June 22 as Native Fish Society hosts our first annual Molalla Bass Bash!
NFS is bringing our popular bass bash event closer to Portland, on the Molalla River. We will start from the conveniently located Canby Community Park, fishing to remove Smallmouth Bass from the river and raise awareness of the problems this invasive species causes for native fish and the Molalla River.
We will have a fun day full of fishing for Smallmouth Bass and a short presentation regarding native fish, including the harmful effects of Smallmouth Bass and other invasive species. There will be fishing, raffle & prizes, and food!
You’re welcome to join us for the day and dinner festivities. Please register and let us know if you will be attending so we can prepare for food and beverages.
Mark your calendars for June 22nd, and stay tuned for more details soon! We hope you'll join us!
If you have any questions or want to learn more about this event, don't hesitate to contact our NFS Northern Oregon Coordinator Liz Perkin at liz@nativefishsociety.org today!
Check out the map below to see a handful of recommended bass fishing locations along the Molalla River! We will be meeting for the Bass Bash at the first listed location on the map, Canby Community Park.
You can also participate in our Smallmouth Bass Predation Citizen Science Project by recording your catch at the Molalla Bass Bash!
Our goal with the Smallmouth Bass Predation CitSci Project is to determine smallmouth bass distribution and abundance in key Oregon rivers. You can help just by recording the location of where you caught the fish, how many you caught, and how long you fished.
Getting Started:
1. Download the CitSci app to your phone, set up an account, and join this project.
2. Just before going fishing when you still have cell service, open the app and get on the project page. Sometimes the app logs you off unexpectedly and you won't be able to log on again without cell service!
3. Go fish! Record your capture in the app while at the location and your phone will automatically record your location information.
4. Once you get back to cell service, go back in the app and make sure your data is uploaded.
