Umpqua River - Tyee Campground

Join us on Saturday, June 22 as Native Fish Society hosts our third annual Umpqua Bass Bash!

After two great years, NFS looks to expand the event to allow more folks to come for a fun-filled weekend. Hosted on the Umpqua River at Tyee Campground, this event will help remove smallmouth bass from the river and raise awareness of the problems these invasive fish cause for native fish and the Umpqua River. We have reserved 12 campsites at Tyee Campground for the night of Friday, June 21, and Saturday, June 22. All participants are welcome to stay.

On June 22, anglers and participants will engage in a fun day full of fishing for Smallmouth Bass and a short presentation regarding native fish, including the harmful effects of Smallmouth Bass and other invasive species. There will be fishing, camping, raffle & prizes, and food!

You’re also welcome to join us for the day and dinner festivities. Please register and let us know if you will be attending so we can prepare for food and beverages.

Mark your calendars for June 22nd, and stay tuned for more details soon! We hope you'll join us!

If you have any questions or want to learn more about this event, don't hesitate to contact our NFS Southern Oregon Coordinator Kirk Blaine at kirk@nativefishsociety.org today!

Want to know where we will be fishing, keep track of your favorite bass spots, or participate in our Citizen Science Project? We have the Apps for you!

For river maps, driving directions to boat ramps or river access points, and other angling resources, OnWater is a great free all-in-one fishing hub app. It provides information such as public boat ramp locations, fishing access spots, and which species to target throughout the year. We encourage you to download the app and refer to the map image below to see the stretch of the Umpqua we will be on. Additionally, the OnWater app will eventually be a tool our River Stewards and Volunteers can use to share conservation issues and opportunities in their homewaters!

Above is a screenshot showing the stretch of river we will be fishing at the Umpqua Bass Bash, and to give you an idea of what the OnWater maps look like!

You can also participate in our Smallmouth Bass Predation Citizen Science Project!

Our goal with the project is to determine smallmouth bass distribution and abundance in key Oregon rivers. You can help by recording the location of where you caught the fish, how many you caught, and how long you fished.

Getting Started:

1. Download the CitSci app to your phone, set up an account, and join this project.

2. Just before going fishing when you still have cell service, open the app and get on the project page. Sometimes the app logs you off unexpectedly and you won't be able to log on again without cell service!

3. Go fish! Record your capture in the app while at the location and your phone will automatically record your location information.

4. Once you get back to cell service, go back in the app and make sure your data is uploaded.
