Get a first-hand look at the ~5 miles of restoration on the South Fork McKenzie River! This snorkeling adventure will allow us to fully appreciate the diverse habitats created when the McKenzie Watershed Council and the US Forest Service added hundreds of pieces of large wood and reconnected the floodplain in the South Fork. We will be guided by fish biologists from the US Forest Service. This is a unique opportunity you won't want to miss out on!

Fish species we might see include spring Chinook, Bull Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Redband Trout, Mountain Whitefish, and lamprey. The water temperatures in the South Fork are very cold, even in the summer, so you'll need either a dry suit or heavy (4 mm) wetsuit. If you don't have a dry suit or wetsuit, let us know when you register and we'll work to get you a loaner.

To learn more about the restoration project, watch the short video below produced by Freshwater's Illustrated, and visit the McKenzie Watershed Council's pages about Phase I (completed in 2018) and Phase II (completed in 2019) of the project.
