Hood River Cleanup Success - Thank You Volunteers!
Thanks to all of the partners and volunteers who showed up for the Hood River cleanup on Saturday, October 19th!
Though the forecast a few days in advance threatened rain, we lucked out with a beautiful fall day - perfect conditions for cleaning up one of our favorite watersheds!
After starting the day at Doug’s of Hood River, we broke into two groups. The first group, led by NFS Hood River Steward Daniel Peirce and NFS Executive Director Mark Sherwood, headed out to Powerdale Road and cleaned up the area along Penstock Flume Pipeline Trail. The other group, led by NFS Northern Oregon Coordinator Liz Perkin, stayed closer to town, but still found plenty to clean up around the Port Marina Park along the mouth of the Hood.
Thanks to the hard work of more than 30 dedicated volunteers, we managed to fill an entire U-Haul trailer with the trash collected from the banks along the Hood River!
After the cleanup, we gathered at pFriem Family Brewers for a well-deserved celebration, generously hosted by pFriem. Volunteers enjoyed an amazing charcuterie spread, free beer, and raffle prizes provided by pFriem, Native Fish Society, and Patagonia.
All-in-all it was a great Saturday, and we hope to see you at the next event on the Hood! A huge thank-you goes out to all the volunteers and to our event sponsors - Doug’s Hood River, Patagonia, SOLVE, and pFriem Family Brewers - for showing up and giving back to the homewaters we all love. Special thanks to the Hood River Watershed Group for joining us in this effort, with staff member Alix Danielsen and board member Chuck Gehling lending a hand. Partnerships like these are what make these community events possible and impactful!
