Introducing New PDX Chapter Lead, Andrew Langford!

Posted:

Native Fish Society supporters in the Portland area might have noticed a new face and name associated with the PDX Chapter, and we realized that it was past time for an introduction to the amazing Andrew Langford!

When Northern Oregon Coordinator Liz Perkin moved to Bend in the spring, we knew we were going to have to find someone to take over the leadership of the PDX Chapter. Fortunately, long-time wild fish friend Andrew Langford was willing to step up and move into the leadership position.

Andrew’s professional background is as an art director / graphic designer and his first experience volunteering for NFS was in that capacity–coming up with a cohesive design template and styles for us to use in our communications.

Andrew’s commitment to wild fish and healthy rivers began along the bank of Steamboat Creek at Big Bend Pool. He had brought his young family here to continue celebrating his first wild steelhead to hand, skated up that morning with a rendition of Lee Spencer’s Moose Hair Muddler, on the beloved North Umpqua. Though his young kids didn’t quite fathom why their father was so giddy, Ed Kikumoto, the newly appointed Guardian of the Big Bend Pool, shared in his excitement. As children wandered, and lunch approached, and a drive back to Portland loomed, Ed congratulated Andrew, and assured him, “He’d be back,” and “would find a way to give back to these fish.”

Given Andrew’s history of giving back to NFS, we weren’t surprised when he was willing to step up to take on this new challenge, but we were delighted! As in everything else he does, Andrew has brought great ideas and energy to his new role. One of Andrew’s biggest goals was developing ways to invite new people to join the NFS community. He has some exciting ideas and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for the PDX Chapter under Andrew’s care.

However, Andrew is only one person, as dedicated as he is, so if you’re interested in helping with the PDX Chapter, please reach out and let him know!

You can follow the PDX Chapter specifically on the new Instagram handle Andrew created @nfs_pdx. Andrew does a great job of sharing upcoming Chapter events, as well as more general information and events relevant to Portland area fish conservation, so give NFS PDX a follow!
