Commitment to Our Mission Through Changing Times
Message from NFS Executive Director Mark Sherwood, Nov. 6th, 2024:
Dear Friends of Native Fish,
Since 1995, Native Fish Society has been proud to be the place where you take action to support the revival of abundant wild fish, free-flowing rivers, and sustainable fisheries. Regardless of the Presidential administration, we have and will continue to take collective action and advance science-based solutions to the root challenges facing native fish and our homewaters.
For the next four years, this will mean joining with partner organizations and community groups nationwide to dig in our heels and hold the line on federal laws protecting clean water, public lands, and endangered species. We did so successfully in 2016, and we’re ready to do it again.
Here in Oregon, it’s critical to remember that the responsibility for native fish management rests primarily with our states, not the federal government. So, alongside our work to defend federal environmental laws that keep us all safe, we will just as earnestly invest in the advancement of our abundant wild fish vision in our backyard rivers where we can make a significant impact.
Native Fish Society’s grassroots network is the largest on the west coast advocating for abundant wild, native fish and free-flowing rivers. Through this knowledgeable, passionate, and vigilant network, we have removed dams, protected habitat, and enacted common-sense changes that ensure our fisheries are sustainable and resilient.
We would be honored for you to stand with us in becoming a member of Native Fish Society and join the groundswell of supporters who are helping turn the tide in favor of native fish.
Wild is the Future,
Mark Sherwood, Executive Director
