Native Fish Society Seeks Umpqua National Forest Fisheries Data Collector

The Native Fish Society is a nonprofit organization that empowers and embraces all conservation-minded people to take action to revive abundant wild fish, free-flowing rivers, and thriving local communities across the Pacific Northwest.

Native Fish Society seeks a full-time seasonal and limited-duration (40-hour work week) Umpqua National Forest Fisheries Data Collector to work directly with the Umpqua National Forest on fisheries fieldwork. This work includes, but is not limited to, conducting fish habitat surveys; electroshocking; aquatic biota surveys; and aquatic organism passage surveys to support aquatic input for landscape and aquatic restoration projects. 

The position will report directly to the Umpqua National Forest Fisheries Department, along with progress check-ins with Native Fish Society’s Southern Oregon Coordinator.

Native Fish Society – Umpqua National Forest Fisheries Data Collector

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Umpqua National Forest Fisheries Department in implementing fieldwork to support future habitat restoration.

  • Record and compile data collected through field work in data management systems.

Qualifications

  • Ability to take direction from supervisors; work in a team setting

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Savvy with basic technology like Microsoft Office suite 

  • Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs for extended periods of time; capable of hiking in and around rough terrain with heavy brush and boulders

  • Capable of swimming

  • Have a valid driver's license; willing to drive 4x4 trucks on Forest roads

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation will be in 4 monthly stipends of $2,792.00 - $3,123.00 on the last Tuesday of each month for a total of $11,168.00 - $12,492.00, with the possibility of a 5th month stipend

  • Housing may be available upon request. First-come, first-served at USFS Toketee (45 min to Glide; cell service available for Verizon customers). Alternatively, potential housing is available at USFS Housing Steamboat (30 min to Glide; no cell service or Wi-Fi provided).

  • This is a seasonal, limited-duration contract position. The hired candidate will be classified as a contractor, is responsible for all state and federal taxes, and will receive a 1099 in January of 2027.
